Executive Leadership Council Symposiums
Address Black Success in Corporate America

The Executive Leadership Council (ELC), the nation’s premier network of the most senior African-American corporate executives in Fortune 500 companies, will present two days of African-American professional development symposiums on July 9 and 10, 2003 at the headquarters of Sears, Roebuck, and Co. in Hoffman Estates, IL. Issues such as African Americans and the price of corporate success, the art of acquiring and managing power at work, and maintaining an appropriate work/ life balance will be addressed at the July 9 workshop geared toward African-American women in the corporate world. This session, “African-American Corporate Women and the Black Gender Gap,” will feature panelists Ertharin Cousin, Senior Vice- President, Public Relations and Government Affairs for Albertson’s, Inc; Jerri DeVard, Senior Vice- President, Brand Management and Marketing Communications for Verizon; Paula Sneed, Group Vice- President, E-Commerce and Marketing Services for Kraft Foods and Pamela White, Vice- President, Investor Relations for Sears, Roebuck, and Co. Alana Ward Robinson, Senior Vice- President and Business Process Redesign Leader for RR Donnelly & Sons Company, and a national expert on information technology, will be the speaker for the symposium luncheon.

The following day, black men will be the focus as the Executive Leadership Council presents “African-American Corporate Men Creating a New Vision of Leadership.” Panelists and ELC members Todd C. Brown, Executive Vice- President and President of the E-Commerce Division of Kraft Foods; Haven Cockerham, Senior Vice President of Human Resources for RR Donnelly & Sons Company; Joseph Mayfield, Vice- President, Administrative Services for Time, Inc.; and Kevin Price, Vice- President of Call Center Operations and Sales for Sears, Roebuck, and Co. will discuss the complexity of being a black man in corporate America. James H. Lowry, Vice- President of the Boston Consulting Group will deliver the keynote address. Dr. Price Cobbs, renowned psychiatrist and co-author of Black Rage and Cracking the Corporate Code, will moderate both panel discussions.

The ELC partnered with corporate sponsor Sears, Roebuck, and Co. to present a series of regional symposiums that would educate and motivate executives and mid- level managers to strengthen their leadership skills and connection with professional networks of other African-American executives and managers. Both workshops will begin at 7:30 am and will run until 4:30 pm. Registration information can be found on the ELC website, www.elcinfo.com, or by calling (202)298-8239.
