Trade and Investment Forum
The Honorary Jamaican Consulate of Massachusetts presents
a forum on Trade and Investment Opportunities in Jamaica
on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Reggie Lewis Track
& Athletic Center, Boston, MA. Under the theme "Unleashing
the Potential", the forum will highlight investment
opportunities in Jamaica and provide strategies on how
to best invest in Jamaica. "Events such as these
provide not only a pathway for economic development
in Jamaica but highlights the potential for third world
countries like Jamaica to be the future marketplace,"
Ken Guscott, Jamaica's Honorary Consul to Massachusetts.
There will be 3 workshops and plenary sessions at the
forum including presentations by Jamaica Promotions
Corporation (JAMPRO), who will provide an overview of
existing investment opportunities and doing business
in Jamaica. Jamaican honey is in high demand on the
world market as such the Honey Bee Farmers Association
of Jamaica is seeking investors to help them expand
their capacity for production. The Jamaica Agriculture
Development Foundation (JADF), currently supply 13%
of the shrimp consumed in Jamaica and are hoping that
with the help of investors they can expand their shrimp
farming capacity and also develop the production of
the exclusive Sea Island Cotton grown only in Jamaica
and Barbados. There will also be a discussion on renewable
energy and the investment opportunities that are currently
available in Jamaica. A representative from Jamaica
Money Market Brokers will discuss ways in which a venture
capital fund can be established to facilitate investors
who are interested in any of these opportunities. Invited
speakers include Jamaica's Ambassador to the US Dr.
Gordon Shirley and Dr Basil Bryant, Consul General of
Jamaica, NY.
The forum is an ongoing series of events to increase
awareness of the Jamaica Diaspora Movement. The Jamaica
Diaspora Movement aims to strengthen the relationship
between Jamaicans overseas and those living in Jamaica
to help in the socioeconomic development of the country.
