The Honorable Johnny Ford to Deliver Keynote Address

BOSTON (Jan. 11, 2008) – Union United Methodist Church and St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church will host the 38th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, 415 Summer St., on Jan. 21, 2008 at 8:00 a.m.

More than 1,200 people are expected to attend, including business, civic and religious leaders from across Massachusetts. Governor Deval Patrick, Mayor Thomas Menino, Attorney General Martha Coakley, State Senator Dianne Wilkerson and State House Representative Gloria Fox are among the invited guests.

"The MLK Breakfast brings Greater Boston together like no other event,” says the Rev. Martin D. McLee, pastor of the Union United Methodist Church. “It is a time to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy of hope and healing, as we rededicate ourselves to his dream of equality and justice.”

Chairman of the National Policy Alliance and Tuskegee, Ala. Mayor, Johnny Ford will be the keynote speaker. Ford is founder of the World Conference of Mayors, as well as the National Conference of Black Mayors.

Four winners of the MLK Breakfast high school essay contest will be announced at the event. Each will receive a college scholarship underwritten by the Liberty Mutual Foundation. The winning essayists attend Boston’s Jeremiah E. Burke High School, John D. O’Bryant High School of Mathematics and Science, and Madison Park Technical Vocational High School. The winners of the MLK Breakfast eighth-grade art contest for students at the Orchard Gardens K-8 School will be recognized with $1,000 certificates of deposit sponsored by Citizens Bank.
