NID-HOUSING COUNSELING AGENCY LAUNCHES NATIONWIDE
CAMPAIGN TO HELP HOMEOWNERS FACING FORECLOSURE

FREE COUNSELING SERVICES OFFERED

Jacqueline Carlisle, Executive Director, NID Housing Counseling Agency

(AANEWSWIRE)OAKLAND, CA---In response to the threat of millions of additional homeowners losing their homes due to foreclosure, a national African American agency, working in partnership with the Obama administration, is offering free counseling in cities throughout the country.

In a recently launched Home Save campaign, NID-Housing Counseling Agency (NID-HCA) is one of 23 HUD-approved National Intermediary Housing Counseling Agencies with funding from the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program to provide free foreclosure prevention counseling and legal assistance to distressed homeowners across the country.

Jacquelyn Carlisle, Executive Director of NID-HCA, said, “We are pleased to work in partnership with President Barack Obama’s administration to help homeowners to refinance or avoid foreclosure of their homes.  We know that housing counseling works and that the needs of many communities are overlooked.”

Carlisle said NID-HCA has developed affirmative strategies and approaches to reach those most at risk because early intervention is important.  According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), 96 percent of families receiving housing counseling services avoid foreclosure.

NID-HCA operates in 22 states and 75 housing markets across the country, providing in-person housing and mortgage counseling, housing clinics, educational homeownership workshops, financial literacy, credit and budgeting classes, regional Help Lines and an informational website.

According to Carlisle, in NID-HCA’s current nationwide efforts to help minority and underserved homeowners in distress, the organization will continue to operate at the grassroots level, working closely with local government, community-based organizations, and faith-based institutions.  A series of Home Save foreclosure awareness events, ongoing neighborhood housing clinics and faith-based informational breakfasts are planned in highly affected areas throughout the county.

“Our foreclosure prevention services in the current foreclosure crisis yields 95 percent long-term sustainable results for our clients,” stated Carlisle.  “We achieve this industry leading rate by having a broad and thorough understanding of the decision-making processes of each mortgage lender or servicer and the market conditions of the property location.”
