The Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!
THE 2ND ANNUAL MARTHA'S VINEYARD
AFRICAN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL
AUGUST 12-14, 2004
SHOWCASES THE FILMS OF INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS AT THEIR BEST

New York, NY- In its second year, the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival, August 12-14, 2004, located just seven miles off the Massachusetts coastline, continues to establish itself as a key organization that uses its film festivals specifically to support independent African American filmmakers.

Amidst the enchanting island of Martha's Vineyard, this three day event will highlight "The Future Of African American Filmmakers And The Issues We Continue To Face". In addition, film goers will have their pick of other activities to get involved in during the weekend.

This exciting, one-of-a-kind film festival will highlight key achievements of African Americans in the film industry. Attendees can expect engaging conversations that will explore some of the most successful approaches on how to build effective strategic partnerships. Additionally, aspiring filmmakers should walk away with the much needed tools to propel them ahead.

"Today's film industry represents a market with scores of real challenges for both present and future African American filmmakers," said Stephanie Tavares-Rance, co-festival organizer and founder of Crescendo Entertainment, Inc. "The new marketplace has a huge impact on what is currently being presented to film goers and this presents some unique opportunities especially for African American filmmakers."

Unlike some other film festivals, the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival caters to an upscale, mature audience that truly appreciates fine art. The Directors Chat, Q&A sessions and other discussions are guaranteed to be thought provoking and informational. In addition, the location and rich history of the island provides the attendee wonderful sightseeing opportunities. From the Gay Head Cliffs, that provide a beautiful view of the western horizon to Cottage City, known for its gingerbread houses, the island offers a "getaway in the midst of a getaway".

MVAAFF showcased more than 30 films last year and will showcase even more this year. In addition to screening newly discovered films, attendees can enjoy the continued success of the Island's African Diaspora experience, which has contributed significantly to the overall stability of the island. "We picked Martha's Vineyard because it is an ideal location to hold this type of festival. The laid back atmosphere and significant African American history is in line with what we are doing. Because of this, we are anticipating a large turnout over August 12-14 weekend," said Tavares-Rance.

Additionally, Floyd Rance, founder/CEO of RunandShoot Filmworks, Inc. and co-festival organizer, said, "Given the nature of African Americans in the film industry, one of Run&Shoots's commitments is to create a relaxed atmosphere that is both fun and informative for all involved."

The film festival will open with a pre-festival reception in New York City. The island activities, i.e. Director's Luncheon, Director's Chat and opening/closing parties at the Mansion House, host hotel.

Sponsors Kodak and Final Draft will award prizes to the best short film and screenplay. Other festival sponsors include Dukes County Bank, Unity First, Edgartown National Bank, Martha's Vineyard Film Society, Mansion House, Island Real Estate, Martha's Vineyard Co-operative Bank and presented by RunandShoot Filmworks, Inc. Additional sponsors to be added soon.

Attendees can obtain all information by visiting the festival's website: www.mvaaff04.com.

In addition to the MVAAFF, film enthusiasts can look forward to joining RunandShoot Filmworks at the Barbados African American Film Festival in 2005.
