CowrieCards.com
Announces a Black Alternative to Hallmark,
American Greetings and Blue Mountain's Online Greetings
Services
ComLoc, Corp. announces the launching
of CowrieCards.com,
an online electronic greetings service, designed for
black users. In addition to eCards, it has electronic
invitations and announcements, or enVitations (as
they're called). CowrieCards (pronounced Cow-Ree)
offers all the features and design elements users
have come to expect from the major general market
providers, such as Hallmark, American Greetings, Blue
Mountain and eVites.com.
The website is innovative, attractive,
easy-to-navigate and affordable ($11.95 annual subscription
for unlimited usage). The homepage has several engaging
features - including; a quiz to test your level of
intimacy and a gifts section - with a wide array of
items, from jewelry, flowers, chocolates and cosmetics.
Most of the cards are designed to be
used across several categories - for example, inspirational
or acknowledgment cards have applications as birthday,
thank you or congratulatory cards. Currently there
are 60, mainly flash, eCards and nearly 20 enVitations.
New ones will be added regularly, including a series
for the holidays and Valentine's Day.
Henry Rock, CowrieCards' creator, said
"the primary motivation for the service came
from my use of ecards and traditional greeting cards,
and with having a very limited selection to choose
from, reflecting my tastes as an African-American.
The frustration with wanting to express myself to
friends and family, and assuming that I wasn't the
only one feeling this way, led me to start this company.
The idea came together on my last birthday, when I
received a number of ecards."
Why the Cowrie?
Cowrie shells are found nearly throughout the entirety
of the African continent. They've been used for exchange,
divination and adornment. In fact, in Ghana, the currency
is called the cedi or cowrie. The cowrie has come
to symbolize affluence, wealth and sacredness within
many African societies.
Henry states, "I thought that the cowrie shell
would serve as a symbol of our connection with Africa.
And let's face it, we could certainly use some reconnection
with our African heritage, perhaps more now than ever
before. I believe that the more we embrace this reality,
the more in touch with ourselves we can be. And being
in touch with ourselves and each other is just what
CowrieCards is all about."
