Music's top students, alumni, and faculty, and as
the premier music event on the island. The seventh
annual
Vineyard Vibes will be no exception, presenting a

Saturday, August 4: Singers Showcase
Salute to the Legends of Soul featuring Jeffrey Osborne,
at Outerland, 17 Airport Road, in Edgartown. Music
starts at 9:15 p.m. Tickets are $40. In this special
edition of Berklee's Singers Showcase, the college's
finest student vocalists and instrumentalists will
perform a tribute to the legends
of soul: James Brown, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin,
Patti LaBelle, Earth, Wind and Fire, the Stax-Volt
legacy and more. Vineyard Vibes welcomes guest vocalist
Jeffrey Osborne, who will host and MC the evening,
and join the students throughout the concert to perform
music from his remarkable career. The student ensemble
will be
directed by Ken Zambello, an active bassist, vocalist,
performer, and composer, and an associate professor
of ensembles and coordinator of the Yo Team at Berklee.
Jeffrey Osborne began his musical career
in 1969 with the funk/soul group L.T.D. (Love, Togetherness
and Devotion). He originally joined as drummer, but
eventually became the lead vocalist. After 10 years
with the band, he started a solo career, which brought
him five gold and platinum albums, including Stay
With Me Tonight and Only Human, as well as such Top
40 hits as "Don't You Get So Mad," "Stay
With Me Tonight," and "Love Power,"
which he performed with Dionne Warwick. His most recent
CD is From the Soul (2005).
Singers Showcase, a popular concert
that has featured former Berklee students Lalah Hathaway,
Paula Cole and Susan Tedeschi, is a showcase for college's
up-and-coming vocalists. For over 20 years, the concert
has given audiences the chance to hear the stars of
tomorrow - today.
Returning sponsors for Vineyard Vibes
2007 are the Vineyard Gazette and the Martha's Vineyard
Cooperative Bank. Again this year, the bank's sponsorship
will make possible a Berklee Music Therapy outreach
program for island residents during the winter.
