J. Howard & Associates
Appoints Hyter President & CEO

Lexington, Mass.- Michael C. Hyter has been appointed president and CEO of J. Howard & Associates, Inc., a multicultural consulting firm that helps organizations maximize the potential of their entire workforce. He was most recently managing director for the company, an operating unit of Boston-based Provant, Inc.

Making the announcement, Jeff Howard, chairman of J. Howard & Associates, said Hyter's appointment reflects the contributions he made to the firm's growth and the value of his consulting for clients like the Home Depot, Fidelity Investments and Gillette.

Hyter said he is most proud of his role in helping clients understand the value of a diverse workforce. "Increasingly, organizations understand that employees at all levels and from widely varying backgrounds can play a significant role in helping meet goals. Employees aren't a fixed asset. They're an appreciable asset. We don't view diversity as an issue involving only race and gender. We focus on how each individual's needs and interests can be leveraged to provide a significant yield," he added.

Among his plans for J. Howard & Associates, he said, are broadening the ways the company's services are delivered, including through the Web.

He joined the company because he was a beneficiary of its services. As a personnel manager for the Hudson's department store in Detroit, he attended an efficacy workshop facilitated by Dr. Jeff Howard. "That event made me understand more fully that development is a learnable process and many people need support in becoming responsible for their own development," he said. He became a vice president for 63 Dayton Hudson and Marshall Field stores before joining J. Howard & Associates.

Hyter is a member of the Executive Leadership Council, a network and leadership forum for African-American executives. He is also a member of the board of trustees for the Wang Center for the Performing Arts, Boston, and of the Efficacy Institute, a not-for-profit affiliate of J. Howard & Associates that consults for public school systems and community-based organizations. He received a B.S. in Human Resource Management from Michigan State University.
