Because MyBlack
is the New Black
Expanding Your Networks, Empowering Our Community
(AANEWSWIRE)Austin, TX, October 14,
2008 - My Black Networks (MBN), LLC has recently
launched the MyBlack Urban Vertical. The first phase
of the launch includes unique websites for 20 U.S.
cities with large African-American populations (e.g.,
myblackchicago.com,
myblackdc.com,
myblacknewyork.com
etc.). Each city site can be accessed directly or
via the MBN portal at www.myblacknetworks.com.
Eventually MBN will expand to include over 200 cities
including major urban centers in Africa, Brazil, Canada,
the Caribbean, Europe and the U.S.
Vertical Branding Meets Vertical
Search
MBN seeks to address what it believes is the fragmented
state of data that is culturally salient to its target
markets. MBN will facilitate topical or vertical search
by its target markets by employing vertical branding
of content. According to Elbert McQuiller, co-founder
of MBN, "Cultural biases about the perceived
value of content often incorrectly result in 'content
marginalization'. The algorithms of major search engines
are simply microcosms of offline cultural biases.
Vertical branding can be an effective tool for overcoming
this marginalization."
MBN also believes that the opportunity
for social networking among the African Diaspora is
ripe given the convergence of the development of Web
2.0 applications such as blogging software, the commoditization
of PC's resulting in declining prices, the current
and projected growth in internet-enabled mobile devices
in emerging online markets, and the emergence of the
first African American major political party nominee
for President.
In addition to its Urban Vertical,
MBN is launching the following sites: www.myblackheadlinenews.com,
www.myblackcities.com,
www.myblackbusinessdirectory.com,
www.myblacksmallbusiness.com,
www.myblackcareer.com,
www.myblackwealth.com,
www.myblackevents.com,
www.myblacklifestyle.com,
www.myblackhealth.com,
www.myblackromance.com,
and www.myblackmarketplace.com.
In the near future MBN hopes to partner with a vertical
search engine or create its own.
