OFIELD DUKES NAMED TO SUCCEED
C. DELORES TUCKER AS PRESIDENT
OF THE BETHUNE-DUBOIS INSTITUTE

Vice Chairman of Bethune-DuBois Institute, has announced
that Ofield Dukes has been named to succeed his late
wife, Dr. C. DeLores Tucker, as president of the Institute.
Tucker made the announcement at the
annual Bethune-DuBois Institute Awards Dinner. He
said Dukes, who has served as Secretary of the Bethune-DuBois
Institute from its founding, worked very closely with
his wife as an advisor and associate over the past
20 years.
"Dukes was there working with my
wife at the inception of the Bethune-DuBois Fund,"
Tucker said, "and she depended heavily and consistently
on his advice and support in politics and all her
civic endeavors."
After serving for three years in the
Johnson-Humphrey administration as an Assistant to
Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, Dukes has operated
his successful public relations firms for the past
37 years. He assisted in organizing the first Congressional
Black Caucus dinner and served on the board of the
CBC Foundation for 14 years.
He also served as an advisor to the
late Mrs. Coretta Scott King and served for 10 years
on the board of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center
for Non-Violent Social Change and to the late Dr.
Leon Sullivan in his fight to end apartheid in South
Africa.
Dukes said, "C. DeLores was remarkable
in working full-time for the cause of African American
advancement. In politics, civil rights, and women's
rights, she was one of the most influential and productive
African American leaders of the past three decades.
No one can ever replace her."
The Bethune-DuBois Institute is a non-profit
organization that provides scholarship assistance
to students, hosts public policy forums on critical
political, economic, cultural, educational and health
