Heads Up! It's a first! African
American Disabled Woman Runs for Senate in George
"W" Home District
(AFRICAN AMERICAN NEWSWIRE)Dr. Elaine
King Miller is the first woman ever to run for Texas
Senate from the Texas Panhandle. A Democrat, she is
African American, an educator, military consultant
and as of several years ago legally blind. She is
a fighter for the rights of the poor & middle
class as well as for equity in the workplace.
Despite the inability to drive a car
she is running for the Texas State Senate in District
31-- a district of 26 counties which stretches from
the Texas/Oklahoma Panhandles state line north, via
a ribbon of south plains counties bordering New Mexico,
to Midland/Odessa where George "W" hails
from, and south to Crane county not that far from
the Mexican border. Though it is a challenging distance
of over 15 hours by car from north to south, volunteers
have stepped up to the plate to drive her to event
locations.
Going head to head with 6 good 'ole
boys of million dollar oil, steel, cattle and prime
grazing land wealth, KingMiller undaunted by their
boisterous vocals, waiving of wealth and connections
to corporate America, was endorsed by district wide
unions and received the nod to win the Democratic
primary last March to run against the millionaire
Republican candidate.
Elaine King Miller, who holds a Ph.D. from the University
of Michigan, has been a community college administrator,
Division Dean at U of Colorado, a tenured professor
and small business consultant. She was Japan consultant
for the DOD, consultant evaluator for the Higher Learning
Commission and has consulted for the Military District
of Washington, JFK War College at Fort Bragg, Pentagon
and Fort Sam Houston. Having written 4 books in the
managed care field and many published articles on
management and business, KingMiller adjusted her professional
stride only momentarily when she was advised of her
medical diagnosis of legal blindness.
She has learned Braille, assistive technology
equipment, undergone orientation and mobility training
with the Texas Commission for the Blind and now has
an assistance dog. The 220 lb. Alaskan Malamute named
Caribou is featured on her campaign website at www.KingMiller4TxSenate.com
and often accompanies her to forums, debates and late
night events. KingMiller who has been married almost
30 years remembers Barbara Jordan's oft cited words
from the constitution, that government is, "of
the people, by the people and for the people."
Asked to speak at the recent Texas Democratic
Convention in Houston before the Texas Democratic
Women's Caucus and before the entire convention delegation
KingMiller says she is running to help West Texans
and families achieve their goals for education, livable
wages, access to affordable & quality health care
and for the rights given by our constitution. The
campaign is on target but Elaine knows the next 100
days will be key. "We will out manage our opponent.
The campaign has done more on far less money than
most campaigns. If Senate District 31, the one "W"
claims as his home, elects a Democrat, think of the
message it will send across the nation and world."
If you or someone you know would like
to help by sending financial contributions, campaign
helpers, providing the use of a car, helping with
signs, or phone banks please contact: KingMiller for
Texas Senate, 5000 South Western, #8828, Amarillo,
Texas 79114. 806-567-5337. Website: www.KingMiller4TXSenate.com
Remember to look for KingMiller's win
in Senate District 31 on November 2! West Texas, the
state and the nation must win this race and take back
our government! If you can find a way to help, it
will help us all.
