---NAACP 2008---
The NAACP’s 99th Annual Convention, being held July 12-17 in Cincinnati, kicks-off a series of events leading up to the association’s centennial on Feb. 12, 2009. Themed “Power, Justice, Freedom, Vote,” this year’s annual gathering of more than 8,000 NAACP members, delegates and visitors is being held at the Duke Energy Center. The Ohio Tourism Division and Cincinnati city officials have worked to ensure that thousands of NAACP delegates and visitors receive a warm welcome. The convention, which lasts through the 17th, is expected to generate up to $10 million in economic impact through hotel rooms, meals, tips and other tourism-related activities. This year's Convention, themed "Power, Justice, Freedom, Vote," will include delegate meetings, inspirational speakers, important discussions about minorities in business and the economy, youth programs and much more.
---On Reverend Jesse Jackson's Recent Remarks---
Here is an excerpt from remarks made by attorney and nationally renowned fathers' rights advocate Jeffery M. Leving in response to comments by the Reverend Jesse Jackson concerning Senator Barack Obama's Father's Day speech at the Apostolic Church of God in Chicago, Illinois: "We must be careful not to ignore the cornerstone of the obstacles plaguing African-American fathers and their children. I believe that the Reverend and Senator Obama are fighting the same fight -- the betterment of life for all African-American fathers and children, and families all over the country. Senator Obama is addressing the internal struggles of the African-American family and the Reverend is likely addressing the emotional pains he and the African-American family have suffered from external prejudices and societal injustices. No one can question the Reverend's commitment to the African-American family and community as evident through his tireless activism. Both the Senator and the Reverend are dedicated to fighting and eradicating the injustices that the African-American community face. Senator Obama feels that by making the staggering statistics concerning father absence public, the community at large and our nation can begin to take steps to correct the situation. Reverend Jackson on the other hand may feel that the statistics will only add to the ammunition of those who contribute to the practice of racial discrimination, but the statistics are true and the result of long term bias."

"Given the increase in foreclosures and gas prices, our community will need to do more with fewer resources. We will need to plan and manage our credit to survive until the housing market improves. We will also need to be ready to take advantage of opportunities to by homes at good prices when they arise. For this reason, we think financial literacy is more important than ever."
